Mariposa Gazette, Saturday Morning, May 9, 1896. Page 4, Col. 2. LEMBERT'S DEATH =============== The "Examiner" of last Sunday had quite a long article, respecting the death of J. B. Lembert which occured some time last month, together with what purported to be a picture of the deceased. It made quite an interesting article, some of the statements contained in the "Ex- aminer" were about as true as was the picture which had no resemblance what- ever. According to the "Examiner" Lem- bert's history was unknown. The fact is everyone around knows his history. It was no secret, his brother Jacob Lembert [who] is the administrator of the dead man's estate is a resident of Mariposa county and has been for more than thirty years. No secrecy as to the early history of either was ever maintained. The "Ex- aminer" man's theory may be correct as [i.e., Solomons' theory] to the slayer and his motives. The story of the dessecration of the indian's[!] graves is new to us. It is presumed that the murder was the work of an indian[!], but as to the motive that actuated the mur- derer of inoffensive old John Lembert no one hereabouts has any idea. ==========================================
